Provider of drugs may no longer be the mantra of Drug Chains but an important and vital foundation to build upon in serving the general pharmaceutical business. An expanded role to the family community may open opportunities for development of special associations with Physician services and integrated treatment and pharmaceutical providing.

Creation of Mail Order services is one area of expansion. Maintenance drugs are a major element of the entire drug sales business. With an on-line ordering system for this capability, the Drug Chain can accept orders from facilities without POS devices (e.g. – correctional institutions, retirement care facilities, etc.). DpRx’s TeleCLAIM++ product offers an Internet ordering capability for these additional sources of drug sales.

One DpRx client offered general sales to its PBM program implemented for Employers. Their stores carried many general store products and services. These employees were then allowed to purchase non-medicinal products with their regular Benefit identification. Individual monthly dollar limits were designated for various classes of employees.

At the end of the calendar month, their TeleCLAIM system reported monthly sales information (providing data media) for these non-medicinal purchases, which were deducted from the employee’s wages after tax determination.

The Drug Chains benefited by these expanded sales that resulted from shopping habits that were shifted from department and grocery stores purchases by the client’s employees.
